Featured Artifact: WANJ 1874 Member Certificate

                           


The Washington Association of New Jersey (WANJ) was founded in 1874 to acquire and preserve Washington’s Headquarters at the Jacob Ford Jr. Mansion. The 1874 membership certificate featured here is numbered "125" and contains the signature of founding members, William van Vleck Lidgerwood and George Halsey. 



WANJ provides new memb
ers a stock certificate type of membership identification. Present day memberships can still be deeded to heirs.

WANJ became a legislative partner, in 1933, when they transferred custody of the historic house to MNHP, the first HISTORICAL park in the National Park Service.
