In his book, Dr. Pfister looks at the arguments both for and against the American colonies during the crucial decade of the 1760s. Before Lexington and Concord, before Paul Revere's lights in a church steeple, before Valley Forge, before Morristown, before George Washington, Britain and America traded recriminations and endured failed diplomatic initiatives. Had the diplomacy not been hampered by slow communication, the disagreements between Britain and America may have been settled in a legislative arena rather than by warfare.
